Sports Medicine Acupuncture

January 12, 2018 By Towson Acupuncture Assoc.

A leader in the field of sports medicine acupuncture, Matt Callison, L.Ac., “founder of Sports Medicine Acupuncture and AcuSport Seminar Series” talks about the use of acupuncture and the effectiveness of pre-treatment as well as post injury. Our practitioner William Zvarick, L.Ac. specializes in sports medicine acupuncture as he was certified through Mr. Callison’s program in spring 2012.

Other techniques to enhance your treatment

Towson Acupuncture

Towson AcupunctureIn addition to receiving acupuncture during your visit, we use other techniques to enhance your treatment . The use of acupressure can relieve pain on the spot (especially with migraines). Moxibustion (moxa) is a compressed herb in a charcoal stick form. When lit, the stick holds an ember that emits a very deep warming sensation through the body.

Cupping is sometimes used to help improve blood flow and relieve muscle pain and tension.

We also use Po Sum On oil on the skin to help calm inflammation, muscle pain and tension (it is also great for a stuffy nose). Also, if your practitioner sees fit to your condition, they may recommend an herbal formula. We offer formulas that are very high quality and they won’t hurt your wallet at under $20 per bottle. So as you can see, our practitioners go the extra mile to help you retain optimum health and pain relief.

“Po Sum On”

July 17, 2017 By Towson Acupuncture Assoc.

Sometimes when treating patients, we apply an oil called “Po Sum On”. But what exactly is in the oil that makes it work so well? And why is it better than the OTC creams and lotions? Look at these ingredients and the choice is crystal clear!

The oil has a combination of natural items that not only help reduce inflammation but also subdue pain and swelling. The main 2 ingredients you will notice when the oil is applied are peppermint and cinnamon oil. The minimal ingredients are: Baikal Skullcap Root(Huang Qin), Chinese Licorice Root(Gan Zao), Cinnamon Oil, Dragon’s Blood Resin(Xue-Jie), Peppermint Oil, Tea Oil.
Comparatively, OTC creams are FULL of chemicals. A leading pain cream on the market lists the following ingredients: Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer,Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice,Aminomethyl Propanol,C30-45 Alkyl Cetearyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer,Caprylyl Methicone,Cetearyl Alcohol,Ceteth-20 Phosphate,Dicetyl Phosphate,Dimethicone,Disodium EDTA,Ethylhexylglycerin,Glyceryl Stearate,Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer,Isohexadecane,Methylparaben,Polysorbate 60,SD Alcohol 40 (15%),Steareth-21,Water.

We have Po Sum On oil available for purchase in our office if you would like to take some home next time you are in!

Acupuncture relieves pain in emergency patients

June 20, 2017 By Towson Acupuncture Assoc.

Not long ago, we posted an article about an emergency room in the USA that is using acupuncture to treat the patients pain instead of giving opioids. RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia conducted a study to test if acupuncture in the ER settling would be beneficial and here are the awesome details.
